Job Posting - Certified Medical Laboratory Technologists (2 Positions Available)
Each position is a 3-month contract position with the possibility of becoming permanent. GeneNews is seeking qualified candidates that can start immediately.
Reporting to the Laboratory Director, the Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for performing routine laboratory procedures such as sample processing, RNA isolation, real-time RT-PCR assays in our clinical reference laboratory. The Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist will also assist in maintaining necessary laboratory supplies, performing equipment maintenance and arranging for service and quality control.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Performing routine sample handling and processing, RNA isolation;
- Real-time RT-PCR assays;
- Operating and maintaining analytical instruments;
- Performing troubleshooting and calibration of instruments;
- Performing manual or microcomputer assisted calculation of analytical results;
- Performing and maintaining quality assurance program;
- Documenting and maintaining records of results;
- Maintaining a clean laboratory environment; and
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.
Key Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- BSc. in molecular biology, degree or diploma in medical laboratory sciences, or related discipline and successful completion of certification examinations conducted by Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS).
- Registered member of The College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) with 2+ year’s industry experience in molecular techniques.
- Medical background is an asset.
- Previous experience in a CLIA registered laboratory and knowledge of CLIA regulations would be considered an asset.
- Proficient in current molecular biology laboratory bench techniques.
- Experience with handling liquid nitrogen and tissue RNA extraction is an asset.
- Able to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
- Skilled at organizing, multitasking and setting priorities.
- Able to work under tight timelines.
- Able to identify problems/errors and take corrective action as appropriate.
- Able to follow and adhere to detailed work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure that all lab documentation is complete and accurate.
- Able to take direction from others.
- Capable of building and maintaining relationships with employees.
- Able to work in a controlled environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be fllexible with scheduling as regular evening and weekend work is required.
